FIT Testing for Colorectal Cancer – Free for qualified persons.
The Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) detects blood in the stool that may be visually unseen. Blood in the stool may come from polyps or cancer in the lower intestines as well as ulcers, hemorrhoids or other conditions. With the FIT test, individuals are provided a kit and instructions on how to collect a stool sample in the privacy of their home. The specimen is returned to the Health Department for testing. A positive test will need further follow-up with your medical provider. The American Cancer recommends that the FIT test be done each year for individuals choosing this method of colorectal cancer screening.
