๐Ÿ“š Food Handler Training

Food Handler training is required for all restaurants. ANSI-approved online courses are 2 hours with a certificate valid for 3 years.

๐Ÿชช Food Service Manager Certification

Manager certification requires an 8-hour course. Category 1 establishments must have a certified manager on duty at all times.

Private Sewage Disposal & Water Wells

Private Sewage Disposal

โš ๏ธ Get a Permit BEFORE Installing!

A permit from BCHD is required before installing, replacing, or modifying any private sewage disposal system. Fee: $75

Maintenance Tips:

  • Pump septic tanks every 3-5 years
  • Service aerobic units every 6 months
  • Use chlorine tablets for disinfection
  • Never drive/park over system components
  • Don’t pour harsh chemicals down drains

Water Wells & Closed Loop

Permit Fees:

Water Well: $100 | Closed Loop (first 10): $100 | Each additional: $10

Water wells must be drilled by State-licensed drillers. Annual water testing is encouraged, especially for households with young children.

Cottage Food

Illinois Cottage Food Operations

The Illinois Cottage Food law allows certain foods to be made in private homes and sold to the public. The Home-to-Market Act expanded sales to fairs, festivals, vendor markets, and pickup/delivery.

To submit your registration application, email Kailah.hilmes@bchd.us or bring a copy to the Health Department with the registration fee.

Food Safety at Home

Clean

Wash hands 20 seconds. Clean cutting boards, utensils, countertops after each use.

Separate

Keep raw meat away from ready-to-eat foods. Use separate cutting boards.

Cook

Use a food thermometer. Cook to safe internal temperatures. Color isn’t reliable.

โ„๏ธ

Chill

Refrigerate within 2 hours. Keep fridge at 41ยฐF or below. Never thaw at room temp.

โš ๏ธ Nuisance Complaints

The Bond County Nuisance Ordinance assigns enforcement responsibility to the Bond County Health Department.

A nuisance is defined as any condition which may be offensive and detrimental to a person or their property, or which may constitute a hazard to health.

๐Ÿ“ To File a Complaint:

Complaints must be made in writing and signed by the complainant. Contact the Environmental Health office at (618) 664-1442 ext. 149.
